Smart Teeccino

Teeccino (“Tee CHEE no”) is a healthy alternative to coffee that tastes very similar to coffee and is caffeine-free. It can also be prepared and consumed just like coffee. It’s available in ground form for your coffee maker or in tea bag form and comes in several yummy flavors like Caramel Nut, Mocha, and Pumpkin Spice. This recipe is called “Smart Teeccino” because we are adding brain-loving healthy fats to make a luscious drink that will make you think it came from a fancy coffee house.

As always, try to use organic ingredients. Not only are organic ingredients better for your health, but in this recipe, there’s a noticeable taste difference as well.

Ingredients

1 Teeccino bag

1 TBSP coconut oil

1 TBSP butter

Optional Ingredients:

Himalayan salt

Vanilla extract and/or ground cinnamon

Natural sweetener (liquid or powdered stevia** or xylitol*)

*Xylitol can cause gas, abdominal cramping and diarrhea if you are not used to it. If you have not consumed xylitol before, use it sparingly. You can gradually increase your intake, and as your body becomes used to it, no  gas, abdominal cramping, or diarrhea should occur.
**Stevia is a VERY STONG sweetener. I’ve heard that it can be up to 10 times sweeter tasting than sugar. When using stevia, it’s best to use it very sparingly and carefully add more in small increments until your desired level of sweetness is reached. If using powdered stevia, stir very well.

Directions

These directions are for 8 oz. of Teeccino, using 1 Teeccino bag. If brewing an entire pot (using ground Teeccino in your coffee maker), adjust the ingredient quantities as needed.

Note: for best results, store any pre-made (from brewing an entire pot) Smart Teeccino in the refrigerator and reheat it on the stovetop, not the microwave. For best flavor and texture, keep brewed Teeccino in the refrigerator and make fresh Smart Teeccino by the cup (8 oz.) as desired.

  1. Boil water and pour over Teeccino bag in a mug. Steep to taste. Alternatively, brew ground Teeccino in a coffee maker to desired strength.
  2. Remove bag and add 1 TBSP coconut oil and 1 TBSP butter
  3. Blend well with mixer, blender or immersion blender/wand until frothy
  4. Optional: before blending, add a pinch of Himalayan salt, vanilla, cinnamon, stevia or xylitol to taste
  5. Enjoy!
