What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a unique modality in the health field which promotes better health and well being in the same way as an exercise or diet program. It is a science based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the hands and feet that correspond to all the glands, organs, parts of the body, and all systems of the body. Stimulating these areas properly by using the thumbs and fingers can help many health problems in a natural way, and be effective as a type of preventative maintenance. It is not the purpose of Reflexology to treat or diagnose any specific medical disorder. Reflexology is a major step forward in the health field, not to be confused with massage.Reflexology is not a new idea, as the recorded origins can be traced back as early as 2330 B.C. in Egypt. Eunice Ingham, the pioneer of Reflexology as we know it today, first researched and developed this field in the United States in the early 1930s. Ingham’s nephew, Dwight C. Byers, continues her work as the world’s leading authority on Foot and Hand Reflexology.

Reflexology can relieve pain in the body by applying pressure to tender areas on the hands and feet. Usually a difference is felt after one session. However, additional sessions may be recommended for further improvement.

WHAT DOES REFLEXOLOGY DO?

Pamper yourself!

Various body systems are affected in different ways and to varying degrees by stress and tension. Doctors agree that stress and tension attribute to over 75% of the diseases suffered today. Reflexology releases stress and relaxes tension. It improves blood supply and promotes the unblocking of nerve impulses. Pressure on the nerves and vessels is relaxed as tension is eased. Consequently, the flow of blood containing oxygen-rich nutrients is improved to all parts of the body. Reflexology helps the body naturally achieve homeostasis (balance). Everyone can benefit from Reflexology.

Reflexology will not make any condition worse. It is a safe and effective method to better health.

WHAT IS A REFLEXOLOGY SESSION LIKE?

When you set an appointment for Foot Reflexology, I start by gathering your general health information. This information can enhance the results of Reflexology, as specific areas of the feet will receive more concentrated attention. The session begins with a massaging foot spa with an essential oil blend and heated towels for drying. Next, your feet will enjoy the vibration of the Medi-Rub® 2000 Plus Foot Massager, which stimulates circulation and the lymphatic system. The Reflexology session takes place on a warm massage table or recliner with a warm Bio Mat, filled with Amethyst and Tourmaline gems. The entire foot is reflexed and I pay particular attention to any areas of concern. Communication during the reflexing is essential and ensures that you are comfortable and receiving the care that is best for your current needs. At the conclusion of the one-hour session, an essential oil may be applied as needed to one or more areas of the feet.
