LEARNING IS A LIFE-LONG ENDEAVOR!
As a retired teacher, education has always been a very important part of my life. I believe it's never too late to learn how to be healthy—I went back to school after retirement and spent 5 grueling years to become a Naturopathic Doctor (ND). Learning about how the human body works can only improve your health. Your health education will empower you to take control of your health, set healthy goals and achieve them.
So here's the disclaimer: on your educational journey, you may learn things that make don't make sense. You may learn things that sound just too weird. You may learn things that make you angry or scared. Why? Because our current medical system isn't about empowerment. If you get sick, you go to the doctor. The doctor listens to you, examines you and possibly runs tests. The doctor gives you a diagnosis and probably a prescription. You go home, take the prescription, (presumably) get better, and go about your life. Every time you get sick, the same cycle runs its course. This is how the system works. But the system is designed to only treat the symptoms of disease, not the root cause. That is why many curable diseases end up being lifelong ailments for some.
What if the system worked differently? What if the prescription was for pills and education? What if you could learn the reason you got sick and perhaps prevent future episodes? What if you could learn the proper way to care for and nourish your specific body to feel good, be energized, maintain your ideal weight and enjoy life? This is the goal of Naturopathy. NDs aim to educate the client and thus empower them to make the best choices for their optimal health. The job of the client is to take responsibility for their health and to have an open mind. After all, if you keep doing what you've been doing, you'll keep getting what you've been getting.
